Cathy Billings, Daughter of LCDR J. Hilary Billings, USS Thresher

﷯Cathy Billings is the daughter of LCDR J. Hilary Billings, who was lost aboard the U.S.S. Thresher in 1963, and his wife Dolores, who is now 87. She is the fourth of five children in the Billings family, and grew up in South Berwick, Maine – a stone’s throw from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery. She now resides in Dedham, Maine. Cathy attended the University of Maine and received her B.S. in Education in 1978, thanks in large part to a Thresher scholarship fund established for surviving children. She obtained her Masters in Public Administration in 1995, again from the University of Maine. She has worked at the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine for 18 years, and is currently the Associate Director for Communications & Development. Previously she worked at the University’s Alumni Association for 10 years, serving time as Assistant to the President, Vice President for Membership and Vice President for Fundraising. Cathy also is a member in two separate companies: Wind Reef Group, LLC (makers of Habitat Moorings) and Lobster Unlimited, LLC (developing products from untapped lobster components).
